The Importance of Responding Correctly to Your Other
It's up to you!
When someone you care about fostering a relationship with comes to you with positive news about their day, it is up to you to respond in such a way that fosters this relationship.
There are four ways to respond: in an active constructive response, passive constructive response, passive destructive response, and active destructive response. As you can see on the right hand side of the screen, a situation has arisen between two soldiers, and the four response styles are shown. The only type of response that fosters a further growing positive relationship is the active constructive response (known in the positive psychology field as ACR). ACR allows PVT Johnson to feel the glowing moment of happiness for just a little bit longer due to furthered conversation on the subject. Living in this moment of positivity for a little longer enhances further repercussions seen through Barbara Frederickson's Broaden and Build Theory of Positive Psychology. |
